Netherlands are the defending champions in the women's competition, having beaten Spain on a penalty shootout in the 2023 final in Fukuoka, Japan. The men's tournament was won by Hungary, who won their first title since 2013 by beating Greece on penalties.
Next year's water polo competition at the World Aquatics Championships will be held in Doha, Qatar, with the Championships taking place between 2nd and 18th February 2024.
