Premier League 2024/25 Recap
Liverpool won the 2024/25 Premier League title with four games to spare, storming across the finish line with a 5-1 win over Spurs at the end of April. The result meant that Liverpool drew level with Manchester United’s total of 20 top-flight titles in English football, and head coach Arne Slot became the first Dutchman to guide a team to the EPL crown.
Second-placed Arsenal secured their place in next season’s Champions League ahead of the final day, leaving three other places open. Man City took one of those thanks to a victory over Fulham, while Chelsea held their nerve to beat Nottingham Forest and finish fourth. The result left Forest in seventh, only one point outside of the Champions League places.
Despite a shock home defeat against Everton, Newcastle secured the final Champions League spot on goal difference over Aston Villa. The Villains’ bid was undone in a tense loss against Man Utd on the final day of the season, leaving them in sixth place, meaning they will head to the Europa League.
Heading To Europe
● Champions League: Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham (Europa League winners)
● Europa League: Aston Villa, Crystal Palace (FA Cup winners)
● Europa Conference League: Nottingham Forest
Relegation
Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester City were all relegated well before the final day of the season. The Saints finished bottom of the table with twelve points, only just avoiding the joint record for the lowest return of points in a Premier League season, held by Derby County and their infamous 2007-08 campaign.
2025/26 Premier League Season
Leeds will make their return to the EPL after winning the Championship on goal difference over Burnley, with both teams collecting an impressive 100 points. Joining them will be Sunderland, who overturned Sheffield United in the Championship Playoff final.
The Black Cats, who finished 14 points behind the Blades in the final league standings, won the day at Wembley after completing a dramatic injury-time turnaround, the first time in fifteen years that a team had won the Championship final after falling behind.
Will any of the three newly promoted teams be able to survive the rigours of the top flight? The trio will be among the favourites for the drop in Premier League relegation odds because survival is no easy thing, as Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton found out recently.
Who Will Take The 2025/26 Title?
With the futures of Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk secured, defending champions Liverpool will naturally be one of the front-runners for the title, while Arsenal, who have finished as runners-up in the last three EPL campaigns, will desperately search for a way to close the gap, particularly by adding a new striker.
Chelsea’s young squad secured a fourth-place finish last season, and they will also be in the market for a new centre-forward to help them progress and at least secure another top-four spot. Man City will need to rebuild and strengthen during the summer transfer window after losing their grip on the EPL title in what was a disappointing campaign by their standards.
Can the Citizens find the right formula to launch a title bid? Could Newcastle or Aston Villa prove to be dark horses in the Premier League title race? There will be big seasons ahead for Manchester United and Tottenham, who finished 15th and 17th, respectively. Will they transform their fortunes and at least push for a top-ten finish? Will Nottingham Forest be able to kick on from their brilliant 2024/25 campaign?
The big summer of Premier League transfers will add to the anticipation and uncertainties of the new season. The Premier League will return in the autumn with more action, more drama, and exciting new stories to be written.
Most Popular Premier League Betting Markets at William Hill
We have a wide range of football betting markets in our sportsbook so you can fine-tune your options to perfectly fit your strategy. While the match outright market remains the most popular of all, you can explore a diverse range of options beyond that. Both for pre-match and in-play, here are some of the most popular Premier League betting markets.
Match Betting - The match betting market displays the Home Win, Draw or Away Win options. The market is for a single bet, like selecting Aston Villa To Win and it applies to the full-time result, which includes any added time.
Over/Under Betting - Predicting the total number of goals scored by both teams can be done with the Over/Under market. Punters have the option for total goals under or total goals over a set line. An example of a common selection is Over 2.5 Goals. You can choose different goal lines like Under 1.5 or Over 3.5.
Draw No Bet - The Draw No Bet option on a Premier League match returns a stake if the backed selection draws. If it was a Crystal Palace Draw No Bet option and the game ended in a draw, the stake is returned. The bet would settle as a win if the Eagles won, and as a loss if they were defeated.
Double Chance - A common Premier League bet, the Double Chance combines two of the options from the Match Winner 3-way market into one bet. It could be something like an Arsenal - Draw option, and the bet would win if either outcome happened.
Both Teams to Score - The popular Both Teams To Score market is a straightforward football betting option. With a BTTS pick, you select Yes or No on whether you think both teams will find the back of the net in the match, or not. The result doesn’t matter.
Half-time/Full-time - A double option where two factors have to be correct for the bet to win. In a Draw - Chelsea Half-time/Full-time bet, the match would have to be level at the break, and Chelsea winning at the final whistle. Options like Draw-Draw and Man Utd-Chelsea can be selected.
Correct Score - A testing market for football betting as the final result on the scoreboard is what matters. If you back a Tottenham 2-1 Correct Score bet, that is the only scoreline that would settle the bet as a win.
Goalscorer Markets - There are different approaches to goalscorer betting markets. The most popular are First Goalscorer, Anytime Goalscorer and Last Goalscorer. In-play you can also find Next Goalscorer, and even Over/Unders on how many goals an individual player or team will score.
To Win To Nil - You can back a team to claim a victory with a clean sheet. The To Win To Nil market is available, meaning that the backed team has to win without conceding, and how many goals they score isn’t relevant.
